FILCOM basketball, organised and co-founded by Dennis Benedictos, along with his awesome team of professionals, held their end of year dinner celebration. FILCOM basketball is a highly respected competitive league within the ACT which has been playing at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) arena for some years now.
They started out as a purely Filipino league, however they successfully evolved into a more mainstream league involving players from across the broad spectrum of the ACT community. |
Filipino players in FILCOM enjoy the extra competition they get from broadening the multicultural nature of the league. Many teams are mixed in nature and not purely of one nationality.

This demonstrates the mature and commendable multicultural evolution of FILCOM which has earned the great respect of the wider sporting and business community whilst still maintaining a significant Filipino flavour.
This has proven to be a big positive for the Filipino community as a whole. Mr Benedictos is very passionate when talking about being multiculturally inclusive. That's his values, and he's sticking to it, and it is a noble value-set shared by many players as he is getting great backing from a broad cross-section of the Filipino and multicultural Australian community who have come together as one. This move has proved to be very successful for FILCOM as its league is now busting at the seams for Filipino Australians and all other Australians from any culture who recognize the well-organised nature of FILCOM and the good spirit it generates amongst the players. |
There are now 20 teams in the league, which is large compared to other leagues. The competition is constantly getting requests to let more in which is an indication of how successful they are within the community - after all local people in the know vote with their feet, and they have overwhelmingly voted in favour of FILCOM's league.
Dennis Benedictos, is a master organiser who has great social skills, which has earned him leadership respect within the wider Canberra and NSW Capital Country community as a humble, softly-spoken, quiet achiever with a good sense of humour. He's just a genuine guy who does his 'stuff' and does it well, and people know it!

The business community has paid attention as Dennis has managed to score some big sponsorship deals. One such recent deal was with Lennox Motors which resulted in the large Canberra motor dealership putting two of their luxury cars on display as a promotion at a recent FILCOM event.
FILCOM is also a proud sponsor of Lolo and Lola's restaurant. Considering demand is now so strong amongst Filipino Australians and the wider community, FILCOM has also been planning for sometime now to foster and start a new competition for the youth.
Congratulations to FILCOM for another awesome year of basketball and for proving how an inclusive multicultural league can successfully be run by many Filipino Australians who look after both their Filipino-Australian comrades and all others of any culture who like playing together with a respectful and fun sporting spirit. |
